I often reflect on my childhood on a farm in rural Ohio. I grew up barefoot with a hunting knife on my hip, a rifle or shotgun in my hand, roaming the woods and streams, hunting, fishing and exploring nature. Many rabbits, squirrels and eventually deer were taken and many scratches, splinters, cuts and bruises were suffered.
When I grew up and entered the service I was amazed to meet people who had never fired a weapon, hunted or fished. After being sent to Germany I was amazed once again to see cameras at intersections and mini hunting lodges from which they shot game. I stated confidently to my friends that this would never be accepted in the United States.
Jump ahead nearly 20 years and I see a nation that has nearly forgotten the most basic survival skills and paralyzed by fear. We have allowed the authorities to slowly take away our freedoms, tax us into poverty and allow our sovereignty to be overrun by illegal immigration and corporate greed.
One of my favorite quotes eloquently states;

Every day we pave over fertile land for shopping malls, we have been stripped of our most basic rights of self defense and we are being taxed and legislated into submission.
Every person regardless of race, creed, or nationality has a personal responsibility to educate themselves on the skills needed for self preservation. This means self defense, hunting, fishing, gardening etc. NorthStar was created by three, all preparedness and survival practitioners. I myself was an Army Intelligence Officer, Paratrooper, Cavalryman and Logistician. We all have seen the failings of our politicians and the resulting abuse of power in the aftermath of 9/11 and Katrina and it takes no stretch of the imagination to realize that we are in big trouble. We are seeking out like minded individuals to share knowledge, ideas and form partnerships to better prepare ourselves and assist one another in times of crisis.
